Earlier this year at WonderCon ,I bought this cute little blue pocket sketchbook from Art Supply Warehouse. As I mostly utilize little "Blue", while drawing at restaurants and Laundromats the cover got speckled by dust and some food items.
So I find myself decorating the cover of "Blue",with random doodles of my characters(and a toy ninja turtle too) as a way to hide the wear of the cover.
But I've also discovered doing so to be a refreshing way to warm up, for my days spent in the struggle ,to make my best comic pages yet!
Tuesday update, a sneak of the girls gearing up for the next "One Shot 2 Killz" book.
Po and Trixie leaders of the girl squad , are planning to give our Vegas boys a night full of 1st person shooter, video game beatdowns. Until the A-team shows up!
Sorry for the lateness of this post I was at the movies last night and later enjoying a little bit of The Nanny TV show with a friend.
By the way if you haven't seen the latest "Mission Impossible" film you are missing out, its non stop excitement!
Speaking of excitement today you get more behind the scenes peeks at edits for Soda Pop Mag !
More specifically the new pages being created expanding the drama of the comic shop robbery in the Mikey story "New Comic Book Day".
Back when I lived in Michigan and my friend Joel Stokes in Las Vegas, would send me his mini comics "Buckley" by mail.
Presented here is a parody of those father and son style comicstrips reimagined as"Duckley" and being read by Mikey.
Sorry for the late update but well the big show is this week, you know San Diego Comic Con International. I'll be there walking around for all 5 days ,so if you see a guy with blue suede Pumas come on over and say high.
This week's update is another peek at Mikey's Sketchbook comix ( Pigma pen, Copic Marker and presto white pen).
In my sketchbooks I often do experiments/ comic shorts ranging from "slice of life" to sci-fi, to advertising ideas.
Often these are attempts at creating new works or after designing new characters to help me in visualizing them ,like a casting director, to see how they might fit in a role.
But many times the short 3 or 4 page sketchbook comics are just to capture a memory or feeling of a moment.
Here are a few random panels (straight in pen with whiteout and occasional scented markers) of those sketchbook experiments.
Enjoy-Mikey>( ^ - ^)< ( who is hard at work finishing Time Cheetah colors)
This week I'm making updates to the spot illustrations that ran in the 1st issue of Soda Pop magazine. As the magazine is black and white , I will be keeping a folder of the finished pieces archived here for you to be able to save or print out.
Here is your behind the scenes look at my in progress, copic marker illustration for HYPER POLICE, one of my favorite anime series!
